Differentiated thyroid cancer is generally associated with a favorable prognosis. However, up to a percentage of patients have a local or distant recurrence. Objective: To
determine the usefulness of stratification systems for risk of recurrence in differentiated
thyroid cancer. Methodology: Non-experimental, cross-sectional, analytical, retrospective design study that will analyze clinical records of patients from the “Abel
Gilbert Pontón” specialty hospital during the period from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2017. Results: according to age, it was more in age group 40 - 49 years (29.73; female with 90.54%. Histological variant of the cancer was Papillary (79.73%) and Follicular (20.27%); in Stage it was stage I (79.73%), stage II (14.86%); according to the ATA risk
classification the Low risk had 45.95%, Intermediate 43.24%, High 10.81%; the SLAT
classification had High risk with 59.46%, Low 25.68% and Very Low 14.86%; the
Response to treatment had Excellent with 43.24%, Indeterminate with 33.78%, Bi
Incomplete Chemical with 13.51 and incomplete Structural with 9.46%; and Recurrence of 9.46%. Conclusions: We show that both systems adequately classify CDT patients,
that they correctly estimate their risk of recurrence after initial treatment, and suggest that
the ATA classification could perform better than SLAT.
