Estomatitis subprotésica en pacientes geriátricos

Abstract

La estomatitis subprótesica es una inflamación de la mucosa bucal, localizada generalmente en el paladar duro. En algunos casos puede presentar síntomas o ser asintomático. Se presenta comúnmente en la población de los adultos mayores, al ser portadores de prótesis dentales. Según Newton, la estomatitis se clasifica en, inflamación simple localizada (tipo I), inflamación simple generalizada (tipo II) o hiperplasia papilar inflamatoria (tipo III). De tal modo que, el objetivo general del trabajo es describir los principales factores predisponentes de la estomatitis subprotésica en pacientes geriátricos. El enfoque de esta investigación fue de tipo bibliográfico usando métodos histórico-lógico y descriptivo acoplando técnicas de análisis de fuentes científicas y de revisión de bibliografía relevantes para este trabajo. Se concluye que: entre los principales factores predisponentes de la estomatitis subprotésica, se encuentran los traumas producidos por las prótesis mal adaptadas, mala higiene bucal por la colonización bacteriana, uso frecuente de la prótesis y por el desconocimiento del manejo y cuidado de las prótesis

Subprosthetic stomatitis is an inflammation of the buccal mucosa, usually located in the hard palate. In some cases, it can present symptoms or be asymptomatic. It commonly occurs in the population of older adults, being denture wearers. According to Newton, stomatitis is classified as simple localized inflammation (type I), simple generalized inflammation (type II), or inflammatory papillary hyperplasia (type III). Thus, the general objective of this work is to describe the main predisposing factors of subprosthetic stomatitis in geriatric patients. The approach of this research was of bibliographic type using historical-logical and descriptive methods coupling techniques of analysis of scientific sources and literature review relevant to this work. It is concluded that: among the main predisposing factors of subprosthetic stomatitis, there are traumas produced by poorly adapted prostheses, poor oral hygiene due to bacterial colonization, frequent use of prostheses, and lack of knowledge on handling and care of prostheses
