El Área Nacional de Recreación Isla Santay, en la provincia del Guayas, la cual fue creada hace
nueve años, por albergar una alta biodiversidad y demás recursos naturales, paisajísticos e
incluso valor histórico y cultural, que se encuentra ubicada al Suroccidente de Ecuador,
reconocido Humedal de Importancia Internacional Ramsar; particular que la hace aún más
importante y convierte en un área de interés mundial y prioritario para la conservación, ya que
alberga especies de flora y fauna nativas (MAE, 2010). Es el sitio de parada para aves migratorias
con el halcón peregrino (Falco peregrinus), con una categorización de En Peligro (EN) y con un
criterio de evaluación de C2a(i), donde C2 consiste en una disminución continua observada,
estimada, proyectada o inferida. Esta isla es hábitat de varias aves limícolas migratorias y sitio
de alimentación para el águila pescadora (Pandion haliaetus) (Jaramillo et.al, 2008). Así mismo,
la isla Santay sustenta una población itinerante del perico de mejilla gris (Brotogeris
pyrrhoptera), especie incluida en la Lista Roja de la UICN como Vulnerable de Extinción (VU por
sus siglas en inglés) y de igual forma considerado Vulnerable por la legislación nacional, de igual
forma. Se encontró un total de 15 órdenes, 21 familias y 117 especies de aves en el área Nacional
de Recreación Isla Santay y Gallo, El listado completo junto las fotografías y la información de
las especies se describen en Anexos. Las especies con mayor Frecuencia de Ocurrencia en su
mayoría son aves acuáticas, características de estas zonas, viéndolas en casi todas las zonas de
muestreos, las cuales fueron 1 (Manglar), 2(ZRE), 3 (ZCE), 4 (Estero), 5 (ZUM) Y 6 (ZTR). The Island Santay National Recreation Area, in the Guayas province, which was created nine

island is the habitat of several migratory waders and a feeding site for the osprey (Pandion
haliaetus) (Jaramillo et.al, 2008). Likewise, Santay Island supports an itinerant population of the
gray-cheeked parakeet (Brotogeris pyrrhoptera), a species included in the IUCN Red List as
Vulnerable to Extinction (VU for its acronym in English) and also considered Vulnerable by the
