abastecimiento alimentario, adecuado y culturalmente sano. Owing to the covid-19 pandemic, Ecuador was one of the countries with the
highest incidence of affectation in the face of the health crisis and state of
emergency, due to the measures taken to dwindle the spread of the disease.
This put the food chain in tension, where the urban-marginal sectors suffered
food shortcomings, which evinces the relevance of the agri-food sector at the
local level, which is sustained in a higher index by peasant and agriculture
family.
However, there are several challenges they face, such as getting inputs,
transporting and distributing production, hiring labor, uncertainty about prices
and sales, little access to bank loans. Through this study it was clearly
observed that all farms suffered an impact due to the pandemic caused by
COVID-19, nevertheless, some were affected to a greater or lesser extent than
others. Being the Farms (FC) with the highest Food Sovereignty (SA) index,
those that demonstrated greater resilience in the face of the hardships caused
by the covid -19 pandemic. On the contrary, the FC with the lowest SA index
were strongly affected and even at the time they present little recovery after
the most critical moments of the pandemic. Recognizing that hardships such
as pandemics and weather variations could have unfavorable repercussions
for agricultural production, the resilience of productive agro ecosystems must
be strengthened, with Food Sovereignty being an efficient and profitable
method to ensure adequate and culturally healthy food supply.
