La apendicitis aguda sigue siendo la operación abdominal de emergencia más
común del Cirujano. Al mismo tiempo, es una de las identidades clínicas más
conocidas y uno de los problemas de diagnóstico más difíciles que puede enfrentar
un médico.
La apendicitis (PA) es un proceso inflamatorio agudo desencadenado por la
obstrucción de la luz del ciego y que, como desarrollo espontáneo, puede provocar
una perforación seguida de peritonitis. Se estima que el 5% de la población la
padecerá en algún momento de su vida. Se considera la patología quirúrgica de
urgencia más común de la cavidad abdominal en niños.
El diagnóstico precoz de esta patología no es fácil, ya que muchos pacientes no
