This research work has as its theme the effects of external whitening, which consists of detailing the changes that exist in the tooth after being subjected to bleaching substances and in turn interfere with an ideal adhesion of the restorative materials. The main objective is to determine the effect of external whitening on the properties of restorative materials with their respective indications and contraindications for this type of treatment. The research design is an exploratory and descriptive study, as well as a documentary design with analytical and synthetic methods which allow the correct description of the information collected, it is bibliographic due to the collection techniques and data with which the synthesis can be reached. of the information. Based on the information obtained, it was possible to determine as a conclusion that oxidizing bleaching agents damage tooth enamel and affect inorganic organic components, but they can be indicated for different types of chemical and physical discolorations in the tooth. The suggested recommended time for any type of adhesion with restorative materials is a minimum of 14 days since the bleaching substances release oxygen in the tooth structure for a period of up to 2 weeks and normal values are registered only on day 28.
