The oral health of the pregnant woman can be altered by various factors due the hormonal
changes but associated with a highly cariogenic diet and the absence of a good oral hygiene,
causing oral alterations that involve the integral health of the pregnant woman and the baby’s
life, taking into consideration that the mother's habits can be transmitted to her child.
Objective: relate the influence of the oral health of the pregnant woman on the future baby.
Methodology: it has been made a systematic review of articles and studies published in the
last 5 years with information related to the objective. Results: the authors' criteria agreed that
pregnant women have incorrect oral hygiene due to nausea and vomiting, poor diet, age,
economic situation, level of knowledge, beliefs, which are factors that prevent them from
receiving dental care and at time. Conclusion: it is important to integrate the dentist as part
of the health team, who must guide in the proper aspects of oral hygiene through an
appropriate technique, indications on how to take care of your child's mouth when he is born,
providing information on breastfeeding, hygiene according to the type of breastfeeding and
control of brushing with the right amount and concentration of toothpaste from the time the
first tooth appears and establish a Protocol of Care for pregnant women in our Study Center
in the future, taking advantage of the influx of children who attend our clinics.
