debe de efectuar Within the dental field, dental caries is one of the most relevant drawbacks. In
Ecuador there is a high prevalence in children and adolescents, so it is one of
the health priorities in the country, having the need to use techniques that help to
control it. Sealants have been shown to be effective in preventing carious lesions
in pits and fissures. This characteristic is based on the creation of a physical
barrier that hinders the accumulation of organic food and bacteria found in this
area. However, they save time and money, when applied to healthy teeth, the
expense of restoration on teeth is avoided. The objective of this study was to
establish the anticariogenic effectiveness of pit and fissure sealant. In the
methodology, a qualitative approach was used, carrying out a type of exploratory
and documentary study, through a bibliographic review of literature in magazine
articles, books and updated electronic pages. As results, it was found that the
way of using the sealants on the occlusal surfaces influenced their anticariogenic
action and the correct procedure in cleaning, adhesion and etching depends on
the permanence of the same. It was concluded that the anticariogenic activity of
the sealants is subject to various factors from the appropriate diagnosis, the
protocol used in the application, the skill of the professional, the need that each
patient has to administer or not the sealants to the periodic evaluation that it must
be done
