The post-surgical wound infection is one of the major infections related to health care, overcome by urinary tract infections. The objective is determine the common bacterial infections in post-surgical wounds of patients admitted to the Social Security Hospital Manuel Ygnacio Monteros Valdivieso, of Loja city, during the period November 2013 to February 2014.The method applied in this research work is retrospective, descriptive and non-experimental, with patients diagnosed with infection of postoperative wounds, resulting from the different medical services throughout a period of 4 months of study, in a secondary hospital level of medical attention of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute. Regarding the variables, gender and age were analyzed; as well as the biological category of the bacterial agent. The main bacterial agent that causes these postsurgical infections was the Staphylococcus coagulase negative (n = 6), followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniaea with 5 cases for both .These type of postoperative wound infection is most common in the age range of 53-70 years. Based on the results obtained in this research work it is noticeable that exists a rate well below from the one stipulated for other Latin American countries, due to the lack of epidemiological vigilance post-discharge
