The Sanitary and Phytosanitary Barriers are measures that a country imposes to the imports of a product, because this doesn`t fulfill with the sanitary requirements or for the precense of some pathogen that cause danage to the fealth of people or animals in its territory, however certain country take these measures in order to protect its production. Some shrimp producing and exporting countries have faced these phytosanitary barriers imposed by other markets,we have Ecuador one of the leading shrimp exporters worldwide that is going through this problem with Mexico for approximately 5 years, obviously behind the phytosanitary measure there is a trade barrier by the Aztec country, however, public and private institutions are working hard to open this market adding to this the evolutionary changes in the Ecuadorian shrimp production chain to maintain the competitiveness of this product in the face of international trade.
