The most frequent type of diabetes is type 2, the WHO prognosis that will be the seventh cause of death by 2030. α-Glucosidase, a hydrolase of the small intestine, transforms starch and carbohydrates into glucose by reacting with the
1 bonds -4 during digestion. In the present work the objective is to evaluate the inhibitory activity of the α-glucosidase enzyme in extracts of Psidium guajava L leaves, for them tests were carried out and it was determined that total solids are within the range established by NTE INEN 1911 (2009) , in addition that in both extracts by means of an in vitro test, it presented strong inhibition on the enzyme supporting the hypothesis raised, among the results obtained, there were small variations between the extracts and varieties studied, this could be due to the conditions, climatic factors, or type of extraction. It was shown that there are limited variations between the positive control and the aqueous extract of humid areas, it is recommended to take infusions of guava leaves, always under medical supervision.
