Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is a disease that primarily affects the respiratory system, and is characterized by a limitation to the passage of air into the lungs as a result of the reaction of the body to harmful stimuli such as snuff smoke or other irritating gases in airways. It mainly affects people with a long previous history of smoking, and the main symptoms are cough and expectoration , and shortness of breath or dyspnea , where disease can be caused by chronic bronchitis , emphysema and asthma as predisposing factors ; highlighting emphysema and even more if patient has deficits alpha 1 antitrypsin , sympathomimetics and steroids are drugs to choice in treatment and having one final , lung transplantation , but its cost is very high and poor amount of donors, making this treatment is last option . The Spirometry, consisting of a series of simple breathing tests , under controlled circumstances , which measure the absolute magnitude of lung volumes and capacities and the speed with which they can be mobilized (air flows). The results are represented in numerical form founded on simple calculations and graphical form printing, giving patterns : obstructive , restrictive and mixed - volume curve demonstrating time and flow - volume , this test is performed on all those who want to diagnose , perform monitoring and observing the degree of obstruction and restriction conditions. Even spirometry is performed to people without lung disease; however they will do surgery in surgery, so it is a requirement in this process, for assessing lung volumes, with aim of presenting much more attention to respiratory part or be in alert for any eventuality.
