Fetal death is defined as that occurring from week 20 of gestation or with a fetal weight greater than 500g. The main objective of our investigation is to determine the prevalence of fetal death in pregnant women of the Gynecological Obstetrics Service of the HTMC during the period from year 2012 to year 2016, through the compilation of medical records of patients attended in this health home. It was possible to identify the main risk factors associated with this terrible outcome, as well as the main causes of fetal death. The universe was given by data collected from January 2012 to December 2016 of patients attended; Where a sample of 150 diagnosed patients with fetal death was taken. It was possible to establish that in the 5 years of study the rate of fetal mortality was 10 x 1000, the highest frequency of maternal age in which fetal death occurred was 31 to 38 years with 36%, being the week 20 at week 30, the gestational age with the highest frequency of fetal deaths. On the other hand free union as a civil status, an economic level and low school level were also factors associated with complications in pregnancy that can lead to the death of the fetus. The main causes of fetal death were established: chromosomal abnormalities with 35%, followed by growth restriction with 18% and fetal hydrops 8%. Thanks to this project we have been able to establish in an appropriate, orderly, tabulated and true manner the risk factors and causes associated with fetal death. In most studies this information does not exist or is incomplete, so it is necessary to perform a pathology study of the placenta and the fetus to establish the etiology of death, so that viable solutions and preventive measures can be established that can serve to Stop this important health problem.
