This research was conducted from January to December 2014, on the Cerritos island - estuary of the Chone River, located between the communities of Salinas, cantón San Vicente and Puerto Ébano, cantón Sucre, Manabí province. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the reproductive biological aspects and population density in the blue crab Cardisoma crassum. The average size of first functional and physiological sexual maturity (L50%) was determined. The density of individuals was assessed directly by catching crabs with wooden traps placed transects 100 x 2 meters; and indirectly by counting burrows open, close observed 1 meter left, right of the centerline of the transect. the main data considered were sex of each crab, gram weight, length - width of carapace, pregnancy, maturity stage; this last one by macroscopic observation of gonads. The total catch was 612 crabs: 266 females (43.46 %) and 346 males (56.54 %). The sex ratio was 0.57 : 0.43 for males. The reproduction season showed significant differences in January (1.20 g. ± 0.3 IC95) and December (0.72 g. ± 0.3 IC95), suggesting that much spawning occurs between January and February. The average size at maturity (L50%) physiological, showed that the size at which 50% of females are sexually mature is 64.88 mm. ± 0,4 IC95 carapace width; functional maturity was determined to 71.70 mm ± 2.1 IC95 CW. The average size structure in females ranged from 45.32 – 87.1 mm. carapace width and males 52.33 – 94.27 mm. CW. The estimated direct average density was 0.32 ± EE: standard error 0.01 crabs per m2; while indirect was 0.95 ± EE 2, 31 crabs per m2. The weight ratio vs carapace width relationship was expressed with a coefficient of determination r2: 0.82 with minimum values of 44 mm. CW – 77.5 g. crab weight and maximum 85 mm. CW- 285.4 g. weight. By analyzing the moulting, the more clogged burrows was observed in June (212) and July (246), suggesting that the moult during these months is more intense.
