Mandibular fractures are the most common injuries that occur in accidents involving the maxillofacial area and are directly influenced by the dental factor, muscle and for location. The prominent position of the mandible in the facial skeleton, gives a vulnerable location across from injuries; so it was vital importance to know the anatomy of the lower jaw, the weak areas of the jaw and recognize the signs and pathognomonic symptoms are evident in the cases of mandibular fracture. Although it is common knowledge that the treatment of these injuries should be performed in specialized hospitals, it was detailed in this paper, previous maneuvers you can perform a general dentist to improve the patient's condition, until it achieves the attention on a hospital, which, given the various factors, will decide between conservative treatments, such as fixing bimaxillary or surgical treatments such as rigid or semi-rigid fixation. This research was conducted with the purpose of analyzing mandibular fractures with updated evidence, by etiology, diagnostics and treatment. It was concluded that the main causes of mandibular fracture were traffic accidents and physical assault, being the most affected males. This research is of theoretical and descriptive because it is scientifically based on the research variables, through consultations on the Internet, in books, and focuses on the prediction and identification of relationships between two or more variables. Keywords: Mandibular fracture, rigid fixation, semi-rigid fixation
