Among the various toxic metals that exist; mercury, lead, and cadmium are a major risk to public health. Objective: Determine the Presence of Toxic Metals Using Hair Mineral Analysis for the Period of 2007 - 2011 and establish the levels of contamination. For this, a non-experimental study of descriptive type will be made; in which all patients treated at the Centro Biomédico Tay-Lee of Guayaquil will be involved, where the Mineral Analysis of Human Hair with Atomic Spectrometry technique will be used for the determination of mercury, lead and cadmium. Conclusions: The total number of patients to whom the Hair Mineral Analysis was made during the established period was 343, corresponding to 156 men and 187 women. The 51,3% of the total general sample presented high levels of mercury, the percentage of men was bigger than the women. The group of age most representative in this study was from 15 to 64 years old, follow by the group of women in fertile age. The levels of cadmium and lead had not important incidence. The most important symptoms were anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, hypertension and headaches, among others. Recommendations: The country lacks of epidemiology vigilance, measures and strategies should be established in the nation, in order to control liberation of toxic substances and also implement an appropriate waste management of mercury and other toxic metals.
