dc.descriptionThis paper poses a series of questions about the changing economy of relations between life and death. It analyzes how collective health policies were developed in the framework of the emergence of national states. The thematization of people's welfare in terms of salus populi cannot be explained in isolation from the emergence of biopolitical devices, which had (and still have) a broader scope. Such analysis should offer criticism, in the strong sense of the word, of multiple aspects: surveillance, statistics, hygienism, sanitarism; and not just the extremes -eugenics and racism. This criticism poses the question of whether affirmative biopolitics strengthening individual or collective subjectivity is possible.en-US
dc.descriptionEste trabajo plantea una serie de interrogantes sobre la cambiante economía de relaciones entre la vida y la muerte. Para ello analiza el modo en que las políticas de salud colectiva se desarrollaron en el marco del nacimiento de los estados nacionales. La tematización del bienestar de la población en términos de salus populi es inexplicable desligada del surgimiento de los dispositivos biopolíticos, los cuales tenían (y tienen) un alcance más amplio. Un análisis tal debe ofrecer una crítica, en el sentido fuerte, de una multiplicidad de saberes: policía, estadística, higienismo, sanitarismo; y no solo las extremidades de la eugenesia y el racismo. Esa crítica abre la pregunta de si es posible una biopolítica afirmativa que haga posible la potenciación de la subjetividad, individual o colectiva.es-ES
