In this article I analyze the Mapuche press in the context of the conflict between the nation-state (Government) and the Mapuche people. Particularly it focuses on the ways in which the notion of modernity is understood in one of the most important newspapers of the last time in Mapuche press: the newspaper Azkintuwe. Through a semio-discursive analysis of this newspaper, this article exposes its ambivalent and contradictory discourse about the concept of modernity.El presente artículo analiza la prensa mapuche en el marco del conflicto entre estado-nación y pueblo mapuche. Particularmente estudia las formas en que se significa la noción de modernidad en uno de los periódicos más importantes del último tiempo de la prensa mapuche: el periódico Azkintuwe. Mediante un método de análisis semio-discursivo de este periódico se pone de manifiesto un discurso ambivalente y contradictorio en torno al concepto de modernidad.
