The purpose of this work is to measure the quality of home environment of 60 families of Concepción, Chile, from two different socioeconomic strata, whose children attend two preschool centers rated as good educational quality centers by the ECERS scale and analyze the psychometric characteristics of the HOME instrument to be used in the Chilean reality. We found that, in general terms, the psychometric quality of the scale was well defined, showing agreement between the items and the subscales and total scale, the quality of the homes of the sample was adequate and that there were significant differences between the two groups of families.El propósito de este trabajo es medir la calidad del ambiente del hogar de 60 familias de la ciudad de Concepción, Chile, pertenecientes a dos niveles socioeconómicos distintos, cuyos hijos asisten a dos centros de atención preescolar, catalogados como centros de buena calidad por la Escala ECERS*** y analizar las características psicométricas del instrumento HOME para ser usado en la realidad chilena. Como resultado encontramos que la calidad psicométrica del inventario está bien definida mostrando concordancia entre los ítemes y las subescalas y la escala total, la calidad de los hogares de la muestra es adecuada y que existen diferencias significativas entre los dos grupos de familias.*** Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (Harms, Clifford 1980), instrumento que mide la calidad del ambiente que rodea al preescolar en el centro educativo
