In the short stories O metodo and A posicao, produced in the 70's, the writer Julio Cesar Monteiro Martins (1955-2014) explores the theme of torture, denouncing it as a trivialized practice in the repressive horizon created by the civil-military dictatorship implanted in Brazil since 1964. In this article, we will make a critical reading of the two short stories, comparing them to reflect on the problem of the representation of extreme violence in literature and its aesthetic and ethical implications.
