Archean litho-structural units constitute the regional basement of the Mantiqueira Province. Granite-gneiss terrains, with some associated supracrustals (including probable greenstone belts), are present in extensive areas, separated by the Atlantic and Rio Grande granulitic belts. The contacts between the Archean blocks are clearly defined by the contrast of granulitic rocks and granite-gneiss units, and also by remarkable linear anomalies, where gravimetric information is available. These anomalies indicate great discontinuities besides zones of crustal thickening, which may be taken as suggestive of collision of continente during the Jequié Event (2.7 ± 0.2 Ga). Lower and Upper Proterozoic fold belts developed in the domain of the Mantiqueira Province, on and nearby the ancient granulitic belts. The successive thermo-tectonic processes (Transamazônico 2.0 ± Ga), Uruaçuano 1.050 ± 150 Ma and Brasiliano 550 ± 150 Ma affected the rocks formed before each one, on a regional scale but not uniformly. The delineated Proterozoic structural frumework imposes restrictions upon geodynamic models based on repeated Wilson's cycles.en-US
