Seroprevalence of Neospora caninum in beef cattle from livestock establishments in the Departament of Concepción - Paraguay in the year 2020

The objective of the research was to assess the seroprevalence of Neospora caninum in beef cattle of thecategories, cows, heifers and bulls of 3 livestock establishments in the Department of Conception, prior to the springservice of 2020. A total of 100 animals were randomly selected from the 3 establishments (45 cows establishment 1,45 heifers establishment 2, and 10 bulls from the property 3). Blood samples were extracted from the jugular veinwhich were deposited in red cap without (EDTA) collecting tubes, identified, refrigerated at 4oC and sent to a privatelaboratory where they were analyzed by the ELISA competition method for diagnosis, with the following resultsfound: 15% (15 samples) of the total were positive, and 85% of negative samples. The distribution of positiveanimals by category and establishment was: 8% (8 samples) of category dried cows corresponding to establishment1, 6% (6 samples) of the heifer category, tested positive at establishment 2; and 1% (1 sample) category bulls testedpositive in establishment 3, taking into account for the calculations the total samples. El objetivo de la investigación fue evaluar la seroprevalencia de Neospora caninum en ganado bovino decarne de las categorías, vacas, vaquillas y toros de 3 establecimientos ganaderos del Departamento de Concepción,previo al servicio de primavera del año 2020. Se seleccionaron al azar 100 animales en total, entre los 3establecimientos (45 vacas del establecimiento 1, 45 vaquillas del establecimiento 2 y 10 toros del establecimiento3). Se extrajo muestras de sangre de la vena yugular las cuales se depositaron en tubos colectores tapa roja sinanticoagulante (EDTA), identificados, refrigerados a 4°C y remitidos a un laboratorio privado donde fueronanalizados por el método de ELISA de competición para el diagnóstico, encontrándose los siguientes resultados: el15% (15 muestras) del total resultaron positivas, y un 85% de muestras negativas. La distribución de los animalespositivos según categoría y establecimiento fue: 8% (8 muestras) de categoría vacas secas correspondientes alestablecimiento 1, un 6% (6 muestras) de la categoría vaquillas, dieron positivo en el establecimiento 2; y 1% (1muestra) categoría toros dieron positivo en el establecimiento 3, teniendo en cuenta para los cálculos el total demuestreados.
