The present work has the objective of comparing the displacements of a beam subjected to bending, using different measurement methods. For the measurement of displacement, three tools were used, the traditional measurement with millimeter paper, contactless measurement with the help of a high-speed camera and the use of the non-linear finite element method by Cosserat's theory. The beam is set at one end and subjected to a load at the free end. The structure is of stainless steel material and its properties such as modulus of elasticity and moment of inertia were determined by an experiment complemented to theories present in the literature. In this experiment, the beam was in a linear regime and the maximum shaft was calculated using a comparator watch. For the measurement with the camera an algorithm already developed in the scope in the laboratory was applied, whose main idea is the conversion of the coordinates of the image matrix, which are in pixels, in measurement scales, in the case in millimeters. For the third method of measurement the finite element method was used. The main advantage of the use of finite elements by the Cosserat theory is that it is geometrically accurate and assists in the discretization of the equations of motion. This theory implies that the deformed configuration of the beam is described through the displacement vector of the centroid curve, and a movable base, this being joined to the cross section of the beam, with respect to an inertial frame. To calculate displacements by means of this method, an algorithm was also implemented. The present work proposes the realization of studies of nonlinear finite elements applied to a free crimped beam subjected to bending, whose displacements imposed are greater than 1% of the length of the beam. To verify the effectiveness of the methodology proposed in the work, the numerical results were compared through an algorithm implemented in the Matlab® environment with the experimental ones.
