Resumen
The characterization of turbocharged engines is still an underdeveloped research activity and there is not enough scientific literature to analyze this phenomenon, mainly in Brazil. Most of the literature available on the subject is restricted to the technical information of manufacturers of supercharged engine parts or non-scientific journals on the subject. The initiative to study the supercharging process in a more scientific way was the great motivator of this work of conclusion of course. The work was developed through a case study of supercharging using turbocharger in a VW Fusca vehicle, which went from 45 hp to over 197 hp. Initially a research was carried out on the modifications suffered in the combustion engine by means of supercharging and the power and torque courses due to this process were analyzed. Then, data were collected from the specific motor of the case study and a theoretical study of the power and torque gain of this motor was carried out after the supercharging. Finally, the engine was modified as specified and the power and torque results were measured on the altered vehicle. The theoretical and practical results were compared and a good assertiveness of the calculations can be verified, demonstrating that the methodology used for the theoretical study can be used as a basis for studies of engine overcharging in the future.
