Resumen
The physical activity level has been considered a lifestyle factor related to an individual sleep and health. According to the American Sleep Disorders Association, practice physical exercises can be a non-pharmacological intervention to improve the sleep quality. Therefore, the current survey / case study has the main objective of compare the sleep quality, between women with different level of physical activity. For these purpose, 32 women between 25 and 50 years old were invited to participate of the present study. Social demographic data, such as age, comorbities, use of medicines, civil status, and others, were considered in the characterization of the sample. The level of physical activity was evaluated according to the short version’s IPAQ and the Baecke’ Habitual Physical Activity Questionnaire. To measure the quality of sleep, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was used. To define the groups (higher and lower level of physical activities), the sample was divided in terciles, the first tercile (T1 = 6,7 points) considered as the group with lower level of physical activity and the third tercile (T3 = 8,8 points) the group with higher level of physical activity. Subsequently, from the classification in groups of higher and lower level of physical activities, the quality of sleep based on classification of components and total score in the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was compared. In the statistical treatment, the distribution of data was verified by Shapiro-Wilk test. In case of normal distribution, the data was compared from the test t of Student to independent samples and, to the irregular distribution, was adopted the U-Mann Whitney test. Related to the categorical variables, the chi-square test was used. To all analyses, p<0,05 was adopted. It wasn’t identified significant differences between the groups related to quality sleep from the Pittsburgh quality sleep Index cut note in the main results. However, the comparison of absolute values (score) in the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI-BR) had significant differences, and the group with lower level of physical activity scored higher on the scale, considering more points more damage in the sleep quality. The main results were: a) there weren’t relevant differences, according to the physical activity level, in the classification of sleep quality in adults women; b) there were relevant differences related to absolute values (score) in the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index between the groups with higher and lower physical activity level. Therefore, the level of physical activity seems to contribute to a better quality of sleep.
