Resumen
One of the biggest risks to which the health worker is exposed is that of a sharp-cutting accident. The worker may be infected by the blood contained in the material and contract the Hepatitis B, C and HIV virus. The NR-32 gives general guidelines for sharps care, biological material, and proper disposal. The objective of this study was to analyze the risk factors for accidents with sharps in a maternity hospital in the interior of the state of São Paulo. A survey was developed with questions about the individual's actions, hospital’s actions, working environment conditions, material used in the procedures and disposal. Then they were distributed to healthcare workers interested in responding it. From the data obtained, graphs were created, and these were evaluated. It was concluded that factors that may increase the risk of sharps injuries are: lack of use of PPE; stress; tiredness; unorganized and poorly lit environment; overconfidence; lack of employee training, updating and lack of prevention campaigns.
