Resumen
Looking at the current crisis in the Brazilian economy that directly impacts civil construction and consequently the professional services of Architects and Urbanists. We sought to evaluate the current situation of the profession in relation to its labor market, as well as the society's view of its services. Knowing that 85% of the Brazilian population does not hire the technical responsible, neither architect nor engineer, to carry out their constructions, not complying with the Technical Responsibility Law. Based on this information, a survey was applied analyzing the data of a specific group of possible clients in the city of Curitiba, to make a comparison between the research done by CAU-BR, Architecture and Urbanism Council of Brazil in 2015. These data verified that in the case of a selected profile, whom are in majority middle-class, with a higher education, 85% have already done some type of construction and only 1/3 hired the services of an architect. The majority contracted through the indication of family and friends and the technical and aesthetic knowledge of the professional. Of those who did not hire, it was mainly for talking directly with the practical professional, bricklayer or master builder. The group demonstrated that they were familiar with the architect's functions and their real cost, and also found it important to analyze the cost-benefit ratio if they came to hire the professional. The most frequent problems listed in the contructions performed without the professional were: unskilled labor, unnecessary expenses, waste of material and staying behind schedule. More than half of the interviewees are unaware of the obligation of the Technical Responsibility Law and its necessity in any reform or construction.
