Ações para aperfeiçoar a gestão das tecnologias de informação em áreas industriais de organizações de médio e grande porte

Abstract

The objective of this Master’s Essay is to identify actions capable of improving the Management of Information Technology at industrial areas of companies of medium and large sizes. The approach of the issue has employed research instruments with quantitative and qualitative features, applied and exploratory researches. This instrument was created based on the performed bibliographic research, where methodologies of Management of Information Technology such as COBIT, ITIL, ISO/IEC Norms and Six Sigma were studied. The research was developed using the correlation between such researched methodologies,identifying positive and negative factors which influence in Management of Information Technologies of such methods. The data were collected through the application of questionnaires, which had their questions based on a Likert scale from 1 to 5. Based on the collected data, results were assessed and distributed, correlating the information and the research theory. The population of 15 companies who accepted to cooperate with the research and answered the questionnaire counted with a sample of 8 large size companies and 7 of medium size, following BNDES’s revenue criteria. The theoretical reference researched about the Management of Information Technologies provided knowledge that allowed detecting some improvement points, allowing the suggestion of actions aiming at improving IT Management at the researched companies. We noted that Brazilian companies, in general, have not been concerned about updating their IT Management methodologies, seeking with it to leverage on best practices and references about this theme, and pursuing excellence in this regard. The clear definition of the goals of IT Management and the strategic alignment of such goals with the organization’s strategy is another aspect that is being neglected by the companies, and must be highlighted owing to its importance. As a product of this research, we suggested actions to improve the Information Technologies Management in the industrial areas of companies of medium and large size. We consider that the scientific contribution of this essay regards the methodology employed to assess IT Management currently used by the companies, comparing such practices against the best references on the matter.
