Resumen
This study aims to describe the analysis and synthesis of compliant mechanisms using an analytic approach. For this task, the Pseudo-Rigid Body Model method is applied, which models the compliant mechanism using a combination of rigid links and torsional springs to simulate the resistance to deflection. With this method the kinematic analysis of the compliant mechanism can be made using the well known equations from the kinematic analysis of rigid mechanisms. Nevertheless, since the deflection of compliant members is directly related with the forces applied, the virtual work method is used in order to find a relation between the forces applied and the displacement caused in the compliant mechanism. Throughout this document several examples are shown in order to improve the comprehension of each topic and its application on compliant mechanism. At the end, a rigid-body replacement synthesis is performed, where a rigid mechanism is transformed in a compliant mechanism with the same function through the substitution of one of its rigid links for a compliant one.
