Resumen
This study aims to analyze the Church's imposition presented on the adaptation and novel Of Love and Other Demons (1994). The book, written by the Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez, was adapted and launched under the direction of Puerto Rican Hilda Hidalgo in 2010. First are raised aspects of García Márquez‟s poetry and how these are used in the construction of a South American identity. Therefore, was required a study to approach concepts of the semiotic implementation that requires adjustment in order to understand the duality of their narrative and specific language. In a third moment it is made the analysis of two works stressing the religious imposition of the Inquisition and the ideological authoritarianism in both narratives. It is emphasized the narrative autonomy of adaptation and the use of its own language, considering it an original work, despite its intertextuality. Finally, they were found strong similarities between adaptation and romance, highlighting the role of both works in the construction of a narrative dominated by religious and ideological imposition, Demons of society.
