Resumen
Under industrial and population growth, the need for greater energy generation is unquestionable. The use of solar thermal systems is an attractive alternative to face the high energy demand and its consequent challenges, as the sun is an inexhaustible source of heat that has a high potential for development. Highpressure vacuum tube solar collectors, when impacted by solar irradiance, transfer heat as an energy source to the working fluid, heating it. In residential applications, water heating can significantly affect energy consumption. In this context, the use of solar collectors, in addition to being sustainable, can be a costeffective option. Solar collectors assisted by thermosyphons are more efficient and operate at higher temperatures compared to conventional solar collectors. This study aims to determine the thermal performance of a high pressure vacuum solar collector (assisted by thermosyphons) positioned at na inclination of 25° (the latitude of Ponta Grossa/PR). Experimental tests were performed for different meteorological conditions lasting 7 hours in each test. According to the First Law of Thermodynamics, the experimental values of controlled thermal efficiency were 41.9% on a cloudy day and 81% on a sunny day, values that exceed the efficiency value of 30% obtained by conventional solar collectors. Therefore, it is concluded that the vacuum tube solar collector is a viable and sustainable alternative for water heating.
