Resumen
This study aimed to evaluate the project methodology and implementation of the instrument of environmental education in formal educational environments. In the background we sought to evaluate the project methodology as a significant learning tool in a constructivist perspective of the teaching-learning relationship. The chosen design for reviews was the implementation of a school vegetable garden. To evaluate the proposed methodology we used two instruments: the behavioral engagement and cognitive engagement. In the behavioral engagement were assessed participation, involvement and assiduity in the proposed activities, on the other hand, cognitive engagement alowed to evaluate student performance through measurement waves were applied at specific times (before, during and after) of the knowledge construction process and check if there was significant learning and if the methodology could be improved. Students showed interest to make meaningful learning activities and evidence on the topics covered. In addition to producing a healthier and environmentally sustainable meals students decided to donate what is produced in the garden for poor children institution of the school community. The project methodology contributed to a comprehensive and protagonist environmental education, and promoted a more dynamic, participatory and meaningful teaching-learning relationship for everyone involved.
