Resumen
Brazilian fruit growing has great importance in the national scenario. The country is among the largest producers and exporters of fruit, both fresh and processed in the world. Fruit flies are among the most damaging pests of fruit growing. Traditionally, the most harmful pests are the Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann, 1824), Mediterranean fly and Anastrepha spp., Belonging to the Tephritidae family. However, recently a new plague, not very well known in Brazil, began to attack the small fruit orchards of the country, with potential to attack others. Drosophila suzukii (MATSAMURA) (Diptera: Drosophilidae), a quarantine pest of Japanese origin, has been causing great damage to crops in several countries, including Brazil. Access to information on biology, monitoring and control is still scarce. The present work intends to disseminate information about this recent pest, being part of a larger project which aims to produce technical materials on newly introduced and exotic pests for Brazil. These materials will provide information in Portuguese language that is easily accessible to agronomists, technicians and students of agricultural sciences.
