Resumen
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of sodium butyrate on the performance of piglets in the pre-initial phase. The experiment will be conducted in the Swine Teaching and Research Unit of the Campus Two Neighbors, the Federal Technological University of Paraná. 20 crossed piglets were used (Large White x Landrace) with an average weight of 10 to 35 days of life, distributed in a completely randomized design with two treatments: T1 basal feed without addition of improvers efficiency and T2 basal feed + 0.5% sodium butyrate, with 5 replicates and two animals per experimental unit. The parameters of performance were weight gain (WG), feed intake (FI) and feed conversion (CA). While the cost of feed per kg of produced pig was calculated as follows: price per kilogram of feed multiplied by feed conversion. It was also evaluated stool consistency were performed using the following score: 1. Hard; 2. Normal; 3. Pastyand 4. Net. Performance data were submitted to analysis of variance, the difference between the average verified by F test had no influence (P> 0.05) of the treatments for any of the evaluated parameters. Thus, it is concluded that the use of sodium butyrate in the diet of piglets during the pre-starting phase did not improve the productive and economical performance of the animals.
