Inadequate effluent disposal causes environmental degradation, especially if the effluent contains heavy metals, causing damage to soils, water resources and human beings. In each production process of the industries waste is generated, in the electroplating industry its processes generate waste containing heavy metals that need treatment to be able to be disposed of in the environment without being leached. In view of the above, the objective of this work is to evaluate the retention potential of effluents by the solidification/stabilization process (S/E) through a systematic literature review, analyzing the properties of the products generated in the S/E process and the potential of effluents’ retention by the cement matrix. The method of analysis chosen was the systematic review of the literature, which uses the literature on the subject studied as a data source. From the 30 articles analyzed, it was verified the effectiveness of the S/E process in the treatment of waste with heavy metals in its composition, which can be used as a treatment. Replacements of up to 9% can be performed, analyzing the compressive strength. The metals are not leaching and can be classified in Classes IIA and IIB (inert and non-inert) of NBR 10.004. Thus, the disposal can be carried out in sanitary landfills, with resistances greater than 3.5MPa, and without soil contamination. Another application that can be given to the cement matrix is the use in paving, for replacement percentages of up to 9%, avoiding waste and recycling the material.
