dc.description.abstract | Informal land occupations compose a very current theme in the Brazilian urban scene. In Curitiba, the “model city” has its informal settlements, and at the same time that it created its image of reference in urbanism, it did not classify popular housing as a priority, a fact that generated consequences that can be seen today. Despite promoting housing policies since the 1960s, it has been unable to cope with the issue of its most central favela - Morro do Sabão – one of the three main occupations of the Parolin neighborhood and located less than three kilometers from the city downtown. Morro do Sabão is not only a symbol of resistance to the formal city, but also houses many residents – marked by the lack of infrastructure, income and schooling – who work directly in the solid waste chain when working with recycling. This course conclusion paper seeks to understand the context of the favela allied to domestic waste sorting, a significant problem that involves the sharing of living space with the work space, in this case the separation of recyclable materials. Respecting the space protected by its residents, this monograph will work with the free spaces (interstices) seeking to intervene in the favela in order to promote better living conditions (leisure spaces) and work (recycling spaces), separating home from the workplace. For this, in addition to a historical approach to housing policies in Curitiba, data on the region that could clarify the problems faced by the solid waste collectors were collected, which correspond to approximately 20% of the Morro do Sabão’s population. Through the analysis of socioeconomic, urban and spatial criteria, it was possible to outline some possible solutions, compatible with the local reality and production of the space, to propose an intervention that is consistent with the reality of the settlement and that respects its
residents. | |
