Resumen
The use of biodiesel is an alternative to replace diesel in diesel engines without modifying the operation and performance of such equipment. This in order to reduce emissions of pollutants harmful to the environment and dependence on diesel. This study aimed to quantify and compare the emissions (NOx, CO, e SO2) and fuel consumption from the combustion of biodiesel, biodiesel-diesel blends and pure diesel in stationary diesel engine cycle to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages environmental and economic due to the use of biodiesel as fuel. The biodiesel-diesel blends were made with S500 and S1800 diesel and forage turnip ethyl biodiesel in proportions B5, B10, B20, B40 and B80. The engine used that study was a motor generator brand Maquigeral, by which it was quantified the electric energy generated for each fuel used and, then, the cost to obtain electric energy using motor generator was compared with the cost to obtain electric energy from the distribution network of COPEL in peak time. The results showed that pure biodiesel was the fuel that generated more NOx and the B20 with S1800 diesel was the fuel that produced less NOx. Already the S500 diesel was the fuel that generated more CO and the B80 with S500 diesel was the fuel that produced less CO. The S500 diesel and the B80 with S500 diesel were the fuels with higher and lower economic viability, respectively, used in the motor generator. The B10 and B20 blends had the highest environmental and economic advantages when used as fuels in the diesel engine.
