This work aimed to study the process of obtaining biodiesel from oil radish and analyze its effect on the sustainability of family farming. In this context, an experimental design that evaluated the effect of variables on catalyst concentration and reaction time was used to select optimal conditions for transesterification of ethyl was possible to obtain 80% yield. The characterization of biodiesel obtained under these conditions revealed that some parameters are presented outside the standards of the ANP, probably due to deficiencies in the washing step. Although there is lack of knowledge by farmers about the PNPB and on the potential of bioenergy in terms turnip there is evidence that the implementation of the biodiesel chain is sustainable. Finally, as a means to better evaluate this process was proposed a set of indicators to estimate the sustainability of the biodiesel chain of wild radish (Raphanus sativus L.).
