Abstract

This work had as its theme the Rainwater Utilization in order to educate students about the importance of saving drinking water and the preservation of water sources and water resources since water is finite, if not preserved may end. The development of the research aims at identifying the importance of rainwater utilization for non-potable use, household purposes in urban homes. Researchers’ works and article published in the area of the covered topic were consulted. A lecture was applied in State School of Fundamental Education II Varzea Paulista – SP, with the theme “Rainwater Utilization”, extracurricular theme that develops awareness and environmental education of students. It was presented a lecture to 35 students of the 9th year of Elementary School II, aged from 13 to 15. At the school auditorium room it was showed a Power Point presentation about the importance of rain water use for domestic purposes (not drinking water) in daily activities such as washing floors and sidewalks, watering gardens, toilet flushing, car washes, and other. The presentation was developed in 40 minutes, where the issues were addressed: Rainwater utilization; Goals in urban areas; Preservation and economy of drinking water; Rain water collecting in urban areas; Where to use the collected rainwater; Care and precautions when using rainwater; Rainwater for non-potable purposes; The importance to be aware of the rainwater use; Reasons why the decision to use rainwater; Examples with illustration of the rainwater utilization and cisterns for storage. At the end after clarifying doubts of the students, it was given to the same a questionnaire with 10 questions. In the final considerations were rated the questioning of students and the questionnaire answers.
