Resumen
With the brazilian economic development appeared the demand for building with
more agility and rationalization of labor. Therefore, steel building is gradually gaining more ground, resulting increasingly higher buildings. This fact, associated with the difficult regarding designing rigid connections in steel structures, arises the concern regarding progressive collapse occurrence. The progressive collapse of one structure occurs when one relatively small structural fail leads to fail of adjacent members resulting in a final damage out
of proportion to the initial one. In this way, this work presents a methodology for designing structures resistants to progressive collapse based on numerical analysis. Based on the progressive collapse mechanisms we choose to employ elastic geometric nonlinear static and dynamics analysis of frame structures. The structure is designed according to the brazilian
standards for laminated steel sections. The proposed procedure is demonstrated by numerical examples, showing to be very efficient.
