Resumen
Hydrates are crystals formed in the presence of water and especially of low molecular weight hydrocarbons and under conditions of high pressure and/or low temperature. The conditions for hydrate formation are similar to those present in deep and ultra-deep waters, and also in places where low temperatures are commonplace. Understanding the conditions is essential to be able to control and minimize clogging the lines of oil and natural gas. For this study, an equilibrium cell to enable the construction of formation and dissociation curves used for the hydrate phase equilibrium curve. The system used is methane-water and the experimental conditions tested are a pressure range of 5 to 16 MPa and temperatures between 273 and 300 K. The results will be faced with a thermodynamic model, based on van der Vaals and Platteeuw (1959), developed in LACIT/UTFPR. For the conditions tested the method is efficient for the formation of methane hydrates and elaboration of the phase equilibrium curve, approaching the theoretical model used.
