The purpose of this Completion of Course Work was study and analyzes the faults and defects of power transformers occurring in the electrical system of a certain electric energy company, aiming to contribute to improvements in the technical maintenance of this company, promoted by better understanding the causes of defects and failures. Were studied and analyzed transformers connected to the basic network, i.e., the class of 230 kV or higher voltage transformers. The analysis of faults and defects was made for the time period beginning January 2005 and ending in April 2014. The study showed that the protection system is the most responsible for interruptions of transformers operated by the energy company. Excluding the protection system, the tank fittings, bushings and switches represent more than half of the causes of outages of transformers, considering faults and / or defects.
