Electricity is one of the main sources for energy generation, being used in various daily activities and for the operation of various equipment. In addition to the evident and accentuated use of this energy, its waste also follows a growing path over time. In this context, measures to manage energy are necessary for its control and use. In a residence, the monitoring of the electric charges is fundamental to identify the amount of energy consumed and thus to think of forming of reducing the consumption, consequently avoiding the waste and unnecessary expenses in the account of light. The study developed about the questioning of which of the consumer loads has the greatest responsibility for the consumption of electric energy in a residence. Software, hardware and sensors associated with the Internet of Things were used in the design of the cargo monitoring system. As for the approach, the study is characterized as a qualitative-quantitative research, of an applied nature, that is identified with descriptive research and is characterized as a case study. The results obtained were satisfactory in relation to the proposed objectives, where it was observed that the shower and the electric faucet were the biggest "villains" of the consumption of electric energy in a residence.
