Resumen
Cotton is the most consumed natural fiber in the world and because of its unique characteristics becomes a fiber with various applications. Thus, new studies and innovation projects are developed for the fiber. From this, surface changes can be made to the fabric so that the durability of the finishes is increased as new products can be applied. In this case we used β-Cyclodextrin, which is a trunk-conical oligosaccharide that is able to interact with cotton fabric through an esterification process. In addition, they have the ability to complex assets, functionalizing the fabric. Thus, these modified textile materials when in contact with the human body and skin are designed to directly transfer active material, such as the Erythrosin B dye, applied for cosmetic or medical purposes, and may have antimicrobial characteristics when exposed to light. Thus, the development of β-CD biofunctional fabric complexed by Erythrosin B by surface modification in 100% cotton fabrics is possible. The obtained materials were characterized using Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Coloristic Analysis, Whiteness Index and Microbiological Analysis techniques. And the results proved the superficial change of the fabric by β-Cyclodextrin by esterification and its complexation with erythrosin B, besides a reduction of approximately 98% of the bacteria present in the culture medium, resulting in na antimicrobial biofunctional fabric.
