Resumen
Home health breakdowns represent a portion of the sources of environmental pollution, especially when thrown into water bodies without adequate treatment, especially in small communities. In this sense, the search for new alternative technologies and has proven quite effective is the treatment of waste-water by the root zone too constructive simplicity and low cost to treat these effluents becomes essential. This system is based on physical principles (filtration) and biological filter consisting in part of plant, placed downstream of a primary treatment (septic). The plants used in this system must be rooted hair type with well developed aerenchyma, as the Swamp Lily, plant used in WWTP (waste-water treatment plant) proposed in this paper, which aims to deploy a station by root zone flow vertical drowned in the community of Ilha do Mel (PR). The ETE proposed here has volume of 16 m 3, was sealed with plastic and consists of a physical filter containing sand and gravel grading preset. It was found that most of the costs of ETE (totalizing R$ 11,184.20) was due to the transportation of materials to the island and septic PVC which would be more suitable since the pits are built or concrete permeable. This value can be even cheaper if you use another type of material to the pits. It can be said that the sewage treatment system for the root zone reaches the three aspects of sustainability: economic, because it is a low-cost system implementation and maintenance, social, considering that it is related to public health and quality of life, and environment as efficiently treats sewage and contributes to preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable tourism.
