Resumen
Civil construction is a fundamental sector in society’s daily life, once it produces, among other things, housing and infrastructure. However, its technical and technological development happens at a much lower intensity than that seen in other sectors of the market. The result of this is a decrease in the productivity of its services and the compromise of its products quality. One of the civil engineering areas that stands out is that related to the modal road. Since both the movement of people and the transportation of cargoes are still done mostly through highways, it is important to develop road works with quality, safety and efficiency. For that, the organization and the logistics in the sites of this type of works are fundamental. But there are at least two factors of difficulty for this: the road works have a long duration and their sites have layouts that make services accomplishment complicated. In this sense, the adoption of management models can be very beneficial, since they bring more organized practices and behaviors. Thus, this work focuses on the use of the management model called Lean Construction that seeks a production with less waste, be it material, of time or any other form of loss. By the field study in the BR 158 works, part between Palmital (PR) and Laranjeiras do Sul (PR), activities were observed and lean principles already adopted at the site were identified. Posteriorly, lean improvements were suggested for these activities, always aiming to adopt more ideas from the management model. And, finally, the viability of the lean mentality use in a formal way in this type of work was evaluated. A great potential was detected, since many of the lean principles were identified in the activities even if in an unintentional way. However, for the full adoption of the management model, a diffusion of the knowledge related to the topic is necessary, because in this case all those involved can think in apply the concepts themselves and potentiate the improvements in the productive process.
