Resumen
The present study was carried out in one of the tooling departments of the company WEG Equipamentos Elétricos S.A., where it was analyzed, especially, the physical layout of the elements of the environment, location of the necessary equipment and the service performed by the sector’s labor. Three options for locations for centralization were analyzed and presented, namely the sectors of maintenance, tool manufacturing and machine manufacturing, as well as the main advantages of the project which were satisfactory, such as the centralization of resources and tools, machines, devices, as well as the specialization of the workforce, quality, in order to reduce rework, movement as the optimization of the flow of components and people, the increase of the physical space in the assemblies and the improvement in the service index, which resulted in improved control in the process. The possibility of shift work was also evaluated, since its main suppliers, which are the conventional machining and precision machining sections, operate in the 1st and 2nd shifts. The proposed layout had the purpose, in addition to those already mentioned, to reduce the costs of handling and internal movement of materials, the use of the available physical space more efficiently, to support the efficient use of the work of employees, making it evident that it moves unnecessarily, make communication between the employees involved in the operation easier. When appropriate, the new layout is intended to reduce cycle times within the operation, ensuring flows with more linearity, maintaining consistency with the strategy, making it easier to enter, exit and transit the flow of people as well as materials. As a result, we also saw a significant improvement in reducing delays between machining, adjustment and assembly operations.
