Resumen
The pork production requires special attention on the treatment and disposal of liquid effluents. Concern about water bodies quality is directly related to such industries as these effluents are loaded with organic matter and nutrients In this study, the performance of a biological reactor operated in aerobic sequencing batch with biomass in suspension applied in pre anaerobically treated effluent from slaughterhouse pigs was evaluated. Samples of the wastewater were subjected to aerobic treatment in the SBR reactor were collected in the secondary treatment plant industry after anaerobic step, where the wastewater contains ammoniacal nitrogen. The research was conducted on a bench scale with a 4L working volume reactor with 1L inoculum, with constant aeration of 3 L.min-1 and was operated in cycle times of 48, 24 and 12 hours. The parameters analyzed for ammonia nitrogen removal were the cycle time, and the presence of microorganisms present in the sludge. Temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity and salinity were only monitored. The removals were 62.5%, 66.9% and 61% for respective times of 48, 24 and 12 hours. It was found that the cycle times and the microorganisms present in the reactor influence the ammoniacal nitrogen removal.
