Resumen
The seed bark of Araucaria angustifolia is a good source of raw material for the production of activated charcoal due to its abundance, composition, its vegetal structure contains a high percentage of lignin, hemicellulose and cellulose. In addition, the consumption of its seed is traditional in the southern states of Brazil and its bark is usually discarded. Activated charcoal preparation is a two step process, precursor carbonization and activation. In the second step of the process, interactions between different variables such as: temperature, time and concentration of activator that can result in modifications in the adsorption properties of the coal. Analyzing the influences of these variables through experimental planning can optimize the process of production of activated carbon. In this work, a central rotational composite planning was performed with three factors (temperature, time, ratio ) and five coded levels, resulting in 18 experiments. Experiments 8 and 10 presented 99.9616%, 99.9884%, respectively, in the methylene blue test, showing high efficiency. It was verified by means of the analysis of variance, Anova, and the results of the regression model that the factors temperature and ratio are significant in the activation of coal coming from this biomass.
