Resumen
This dissertation is linked to the Graduate Program in Science and Technology Teaching (PPGECT), at the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR), associated to the Didactic Material research group for the Teaching of Probability and Statistics in Basic and Higher Education. The research aims to investigate whether the participation of teachers of the Final Years of Fundamentals in a continuing education course that articulates the Graphic Understanding of Curcio (1989) and the Statistical Literacy of Gal (2002) can contribute to the development of a more effective Statistical Education. To achieve the proposed aim, this research was based on theoretical bases on teacher education in the discipline of Mathematics, national curriculum guidelines for teacher training, teaching knowledge and, the field of Statistical Education, Graphic Understanding and statistical skills. The methodological procedures used were based on the concepts of qualitative research. A professional development course about Statistical Education was created and implemented, regarding the subjects of Statistics and Probability, reading and discussing scientific articles, researches and statistics contents so the course teachers were invited to develop a teaching activity. The twelve (12) teachers from the Public Education Network from the State of Paraná, Brazil, who participated in the course, are qualified in Mathematics. The course had the duration of 15 (fifteen meetings), 4 (four) hours each. As an instrument for data collection, the tasks of Statistics and Probability, learning narratives and descriptive memorials were applied. The data analysis was carried out under the discursive Textual Analysis theory that allowed the interpretation and understanding of the registered produced by the course teachers. Among some of the results we found, we highlight: the articulation inherent to the articulation between Statistical Literacy and Graphic Understanding; the intrinsic relationship of statistical skills with Graphic Understanding, envisioning the teaching and learning process, as the professional training course carried out allowed to identify statistical and graphic skills as disciplinary and specific knowledge; the role of the responsibility for caring on the activity can change the relationship between the student teachers and the knowledge; the reflexive discussion of the importance of the approximation and articulation between Statistical Education and Basic Education; the development and manifestation of professional knowledge essential to teach. In particular, the development of the research promoted the elaboration and production of a pedagogical proposal as an education product, which collaborate with the process of continuing education of teachers specially in the field of Mathematics.
